Dear Valued Customer

This week the Government announced its decision to move to Step 4 of their Roadmap to Recovery – they described this next move as a ‘phase of continued caution whilst managing the risks of Covid-19.’

This means that from 19 July, most legal restrictions to control Covid-19 will be lifted in England.

However, we know that Covid-19 has not gone away and in many areas, including in Halton, cases are high and rising.

Our current rate of infection is 360 per 100,000 population (seven days up to 9 July), while admissions to our local hospitals are also increasing. Vaccination uptake is good, however, we have not reached a point where enough of our population have been fully vaccinated. Halton remains listed as an Enhanced Response Area.

It is important therefore that we continue to act carefully and remain cautious, putting the safety of our employees and our community first – as we have done throughout this pandemic.

Therefore, the leisure centres will continue to operate with existing control measures in place, until at least the 12 August – this includes encouraging members of the public to continue to wear face coverings.

Ours is an intentionally careful approach, based on our local circumstances and on the expert advice of our Public Health colleagues.

This may mean that our actions moving forward are different from the guidance being given by Government, or indeed from other local authority areas – who will also be making decisions based on what they believe is right for their area.

In many ways, the shift from restrictions in law, to advice and personal responsibility, presents us all with new challenges as we navigate what ‘living with Covid-19’ means for us in our personal and our working lives.

However, we will continue to do all we can to support our community as we take these next tentative steps together towards normality.

We will send you another progress update before the 12th August to keep you informed of our plans and changes moving forward.

All sessions will have to be pre-booked via the online booking system,  or by calling your leisure centre.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Best regards,

Leisure Centres Team
